Linc's Tale
Linc interviewed Jared May this week about a couple of his favorite projects. Keep reading to check out the videos and learn more about the projects.
Linc: What was one of your
favorite projects that you have done recently and who was the client?
Jared: I would say that there are a couple that come to mind. One would be a Welcome video we did for First United Bank and the other more recently would probably be the Go.Vote.Lubbock TV spot we did for The City of Lubbock.
With the Go.Vote.Lubbock spot, the City of Lubbock came to us with a request to create a TV spot that would encourage Lubbockites to get out and vote. They wanted to reach a slightly younger audience as well so they wanted something energetic and fresh. Scott came up with some great copy and we put together a fun spot with local & stock photos that was fast-paced and different. It did well and voting numbers were up. This past year the spot won Best of Show Broadcast at the ADDY awards which was amazing.
Linc: What tools did
you use to create this project?
Jared: I would say that there are a couple that come to mind. One would be a Welcome video we did for First United Bank and the other more recently would probably be the Go.Vote.Lubbock TV spot we did for The City of Lubbock.
Linc: Tell me a
little about the projects?
Jared: The idea behind the
Welcome video was that FUB needed a fun interesting way to show new employees
the bank's beliefs & values system. One of the bank’s visual staples
when you walk into an actual branch are these amazing pieces of art by a local
artist named Laura Lewis. So in the video we went with using her artwork
and giving it a 3d feel with some parallax and some music from Doug Smith and
we ended up with a pretty nice piece. The response from the client was
great and even a little emotional in spots which is probably one of the best complements
you can receive from anything you work on.

Linc: What did you
like most about these projects?
Jared: I guess the reason these stand out the
most to me is because one was an overwhelmingly positive response and
appreciation from your client who has trusted you with their brand, and the
other is recognition by industry peers as a stand-out spot in the company of so
many other talented and creative individuals in Lubbock who I look up to and
admire.
Linc: Did you have
any challenges?
Jared: Sure. There are
always challenges to overcome, big and small with any project but without
challenges we can’t grow. In both of these projects, there were several
challenges but due to them I learned new techniques and skills that I can and
have built upon and still use on a daily basis.
Jared: For the most
part, both projects were animated in After Effects with some heavy assists with several asset
files from both Photoshop &Illustrator.
Linc: How long did
it take to complete this project?
Jared: Beats me? I
think the Welcome video took 2-3 weeks off and on, and if I recall correctly
the Go.Vote.Lubbock spot was probably finished up in a little over a week.
Linc: Is there
anything you would have changed after seeing the final project?
Jared: I think there are always think I would like to change or improve in a completed project. Given the time I could easily tweak a project into infinity. But with the nature of this business, the luxury of time is fairly hard to come by. Having a deadline in the creative process is a welcomed hurdle in my case. Otherwise, I'd probably still be working on both of these projects.
