Linc's tale - Motion Graphic Design

Linc's Tale

Linc interviewed Jared May this week about a couple of his favorite projects.  Keep reading to check out the videos and learn more about the projects.

Linc: What was one of your favorite projects that you have done recently and who was the client?
Jared: I would say that there are a couple that come to mind. One would be a Welcome video we did for First United Bank and the other more recently would probably be the Go.Vote.Lubbock TV spot we did for The City of Lubbock.

Linc: Tell me a little about the projects?
Jared: The idea behind the Welcome video was that FUB needed a fun interesting way to show new employees the bank's beliefs & values system. One of the bank’s visual staples when you walk into an actual branch are these amazing pieces of art by a local artist named Laura Lewis. So in the video we went with using her artwork and giving it a 3d feel with some parallax and some music from Doug Smith and we ended up with a pretty nice piece. The response from the client was great and even a little emotional in spots which is probably one of the best complements you can receive from anything you work on.

With the Go.Vote.Lubbock spot, the City of Lubbock came to us with a request to create a TV spot that would encourage Lubbockites to get out and vote. They wanted to reach a slightly younger audience as well so they wanted something energetic and fresh. Scott came up with some great copy and we put together a fun spot with local & stock photos that was fast-paced and different. It did well and voting numbers were up. This past year the spot won Best of Show Broadcast at the ADDY awards which was amazing.

Linc: What did you like most about these projects?
Jared: I guess the reason these stand out the most to me is because one was an overwhelmingly positive response and appreciation from your client who has trusted you with their brand, and the other is recognition by industry peers as a stand-out spot in the company of so many other talented and creative individuals in Lubbock who I look up to and admire.

Linc: Did you have any challenges?
Jared: Sure. There are always challenges to overcome, big and small with any project but without challenges we can’t grow. In both of these projects, there were several challenges but due to them I learned new techniques and skills that I can and have built upon and still use on a daily basis.

Linc: What tools did you use to create this project?
Jared: For the most part, both projects were animated in After Effects with some heavy assists with several asset files from both Photoshop &Illustrator.

Linc: How long did it take to complete this project?
Jared: Beats me? I think the Welcome video took 2-3 weeks off and on, and if I recall correctly the Go.Vote.Lubbock spot was probably finished up in a little over a week.

Linc: Is there anything you would have changed after seeing the final project?
Jared: I think there are always think I would like to change or improve in a completed project. Given the time I could easily tweak a project into infinity. But with the nature of this business, the luxury of time is fairly hard to come by. Having a deadline in the creative process is a welcomed hurdle in my case. Otherwise, I'd probably still be working on both of these projects.

Linc's Tale - First United Timeline

Linc's Tale
This week Linc, our squirrel loving mascot, interviewed Mike Meister on one of his favorite projects.

Linc: What was one of your favorite projects that you have done recently and who was the client?
Mike: The timeline wall for First United Bank.

Linc: Tell me a little about the project?
Mike: It was basically showing the history of First United Bank.

Linc: What did you like most about this project?
Mike: It was like a museum installation, it was something different, and the final result was pretty cool.

Linc: Did you have any challenges?
Mike: Oh yes, there were a few challenges throughout this project, I was working with a couple of different vendors and coordinating all of the elements was a little tricky to get everything to fit on the 2 walls. Also, the cutout type was tricky to get what I wanted it to do and I had to figure out how to attach the other metal type (the dates) to the metal bar. Another challenge was trying to make everything look organic and interesting throughout the walls, it made me have to use every part of my brain but ended up looking good.

Linc: What tools did you use to create this project?
Mike: Adobe Creative Suits, but Illustrator was the main one I used to create all 45 plaques and all of the dyes. I also had to use hot glue and epoxy for the letters and numbers.

Linc: How long did it take to complete this project?
Mike: At least 7 months, April thru November.

Linc: Is there anything you would have changed after seeing the final project?
Mike: Hmmm I don't think so, at first my original design was a little different but after collaborating with the other designers, I think it turned out just about right for the room and for what the client and interior designer wanted.

Meet the Interns

Chase Embree | Allie Ziober | Danny Tomeny
Spring 2018 Interns
This Spring we have three new faces. All three interns are here to gain invaluable real-world media industry experience.  Perhaps you've seen them wandering around the office. Let's go ahead and meet them!

CHASE
Q: Hometown?
A: Frisco, TX
Q: Major?
A: Advertising
Q: Classification?
A: Junior
Q: Dream Job?
A: The end goal for me is definitely to one day be the owner of an advertising agency in New York City. I would also be just as happy to own the Dallas Cowboys if Jerry Jones would ever give it up.
Q: Ideal plans after graduation?
A: My parents want me to say that I will immediately jump into a “big boy job”, but if I am being honest it is to travel. My sister lives in London so that is probably where I will start, then just travel across Europe until I get homesick.
Q: Most valuable class you've taken?
A: I would have to say Principles of Advertising. I tried it out because I wanted to find a new major, and at the end of the course I knew that Advertising was where I belonged.
Q: Fun Fact?
A: I joined the Army National Guard in March 2015, and completed Infantry School at Fort Benning in 2016. I had the honor to serve my fellow Texans when I was activated to Houston for Hurricane Harvey.
Q: Favorite place to eat/go in Lubbock?
A: It is almost impossible for me to narrow it down. I like to consider myself a food connoisseur. A few of my favorites are Chipotle, Fuzzys, Chuys, Jaliscos, and of course Picantes. I love Mexican food.
Q: Fav milkshake flavor?
A: Well considering I am allergic to Chocolate and Strawberries I will have to go with Vanilla.

ALLIE
Q: Hometown?
A: Grapevine, TX
Q: Major?
A: Advertising

A: Senior
Q: Dream Job?
A: I would love to be apart of the marketing team for all the big music festivals around the world (Coachella, ACL and Tomorrowland), it would be so fun and exciting to travel as much as possible and see the world.
Q: Ideal plans after graduation?
A: I’ll probably move back to the Dallas area and find a job and get my life started.
Q: Most valuable class you've taken?
A: Advertising campaigns, it was a very helpful class because we worked in a group all semester and actually came up with our own campaign for a company and got to present it to the president of the company.
Q: Fun Fact?
A: I love to workout and I’m addicted to online shopping
Q: Favorite place to eat/go in Lubbock?
A; Chimys! Always fun to go for happy hour and after a long day of class and work.
